Angela Alsobrooks

Angela Alsobrooks, born in 1971, became Maryland’s junior U.S. Senator in 2025, making history as the state’s first Black female senator.

Prior to being elected to the Senate in 2024, she served as Prince George’s County Executive (2018–2024) and as the county’s State’s Attorney (2010–2018).

She serves on several committees, including the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; the Committee on Environment and Public Works; and the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions.

Senator Alsobrooks has affirmed Israel’s right to defend itself and advocates for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She has called for a ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the need for peace and safety for both Israelis and Palestinians.

Senator Alsobrooks supported the Antisemitism Awareness Act, which incorporates the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) definition of antisemitism into federal anti-discrimination enforcement. She emphasizes the importance of confronting hate and ensuring safety in educational environments. ​

She supports continued U.S. security assistance to Israel, aligning with the provisions outlined in the United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act. Alsobrooks has expressed that Israel has a right to defend itself and that U.S. aid plays a crucial role in its security.

Alsobrooks has indicated support for diplomatic efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, aligning with the objectives of the Iran Nuclear Deal. She believes in the importance of multilateral agreements to ensure regional stability and security.
