Student Government Leadership Initiative

Student government is one of the most influential institutions on any college campus. It helps shape university policies, allocates funding to student organizations, advises administrators, and often influences the overall culture of campus life. Yet many Jewish students underestimate its impact, assume it has little real authority, or simply do not see themselves as future student leaders.

The American Jewish Congress launched the Student Government Leadership Initiative to help change that reality. Through educational resources, leadership development programs, and mentorship opportunities, we empower Jewish students to engage in campus leadership, participate in the democratic process, and ensure their voices are represented where decisions are made.

A Seat at the Table

A Seat at the Table is a practical guide created by former student government leaders for the next generation of campus leaders. Written by students who have successfully served in elected positions, the guide explains how student government works, why it matters, and how students can effectively navigate the process. Combining firsthand experience, practical advice, and actionable tools, it helps students better understand campus governance, advocate for their communities, and become more effective leaders.

Elected & Influential

Elected & Influential is a national leadership program designed to encourage and prepare Jewish students to run for student government positions. Through expert-led training sessions, mentorship, campaign guidance, and a nationwide network of peers, participants gain the skills and confidence needed to run successful campaigns, serve effectively once elected, and help shape the future of campus life from within.

By helping Jewish students secure a seat at the table, we are building a new generation of leaders equipped to strengthen their campuses, represent their communities, and lead with confidence long after graduation.
