William Cassidy was born in 1957 and is currently serving as the senior United States Senator from Louisiana. Senator Cassidy’s seat is up for election in 2026.
A doctor by profession, Cassidy entered politics in 2006 when he ran for and was elected to the Louisiana State Senate. In 2008, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives to represent Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District. In 2014, he was elected to the U.S. Senate.
Senator Cassidy is currently serving on the Finance Committee; the Health, Education, Labor, & Pensions (HELP) Committee; the Energy and Natural Resources Committee; and the Veterans Affairs Committee.

Senator Cassidy opposed the Iran nuclear deal. He cosponsored legislation objecting the UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which claimed that Israel’s settlements have no legal validity. He cosponsored the Israel Anti-Boycott Act that aimed to fight discriminatory boycotts that target Israel.
In 2019, he voted for the Strengthening America’s Middle East Security Act which, among other things, strengthened Israel’s security and allowed a state or local government to adopt measures to divest its assets from entities that boycott Israel.
