Kevin Cramer

Kevin Cramer was born in 1961 and is currently serving as the junior United States Senator from North Dakota. Senator Cramer was elected in 2018 and his seat will be up for reelection in 2024.

Cramer previously chaired the North Dakota Republican Party from 1991 to 1993. He served as State Tourism Director between 1993–1997. He was elected to the North Dakota Public Service Commission from 2003 to 2012. On that year he ran and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives to represent North Dakota’s at-large Congressional District. He was reelected in 2014 and in 2016, and in 2018 he was elected to the Senate.

Senator Cramer is currently serving on the Armed Services Committee; the Environment and Public Works Committee, the Veterans’ Affairs Committee; the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee; and the Budget Committee.

Below is Senator Cramer’s voting record and public positions on issues important to the Jewish community.

Senator Cramer was against the Iran Deal and supported President’s Trump decision to reimpose strong sanctions on Iran. He supported the U.S. embassy move to Jerusalem.

At the same time, he supported the Taylor Force Act, which stated that no American governmental funds shall be given to a Palestinian entity that rewarded financially terrorists or their families. Senator Cramer opposes the global Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and cosponsored and the Israel Anti-Boycott Act, a legislation that aimed to fight the boycott movement against Israel.

In 2018, when he was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Cramer cosponsored the United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act of 2018, a legislation that supported full funding of security assistance to Israel as outlined in the 2016 U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding.

In 2019, he voted for the Strengthening America’s Middle East Security Act which, among other things, strengthened Israel’s security and allowed a state or local government to adopt measures to divest its assets from entities that boycott Israel. He is a cosponsor of the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act, which aims to provide for the consideration of a definition of anti-Semitism for the enforcement of Federal antidiscrimination laws concerning education programs or activities.
