Lisa Blunt Rochester, born in 1962, is currently serving as the junior Senator from the state of Delaware, having been elected in 2024.
Blunt Rochester made history in 2024 by becoming the first woman and first Black person to represent Delaware in the U.S. Senate. Prior to her Senate tenure, she served four terms as Delaware’s at-large Representative in the U.S. House from 2017 to 2025. Her public service career includes roles as Delaware’s Secretary of Labor, Deputy Secretary of Health and Social Services, and State Personnel Director.
In the Senate, Blunt Rochester serves on several committees, including the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP), Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.

Senator Blunt Rochester has consistently advocated for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In March 2024, she became the first member of Delaware’s congressional delegation to call for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.
In May 2024, Blunt Rochester voted in favor of the Antisemitism Awareness Act, which directs the Department of Education to consider the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) definition of antisemitism when investigating discrimination complaints.
Blunt Rochester has supported continued U.S. security assistance to Israel. In May 2024, she voted in favor of the Israel Security Assistance Support Act (H.R. 8369), which ensures the prompt delivery of defense articles and services to Israel and prohibits the use of federal funds to withhold such assistance.
Senator Blunt Rochester has expressed support for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran Nuclear Deal. She believes in the importance of diplomatic efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and has advocated for reentering the agreement if Iran complies with its obligations.
