Lisa Murkowski was born in 1957 and is currently serving as the senior United States Senator from Alaska. Senator Murkowski’s seat will be up for election in 2028.
Senator Murkowski was first appointed to the Senate in 2002 by Alaska Governor Frank Murkowski. She is the first Alaskan-born Senator and only the sixth U.S. Senator to serve the state. She is now in her third full term as Alaska’s senior senator after being re-elected in 2016.
Senator Murkowski chairs the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and also serves on the Appropriations Committee. She is a member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and also is a senior member of the Indian Affairs Committee.

Senator Murkowski cosponsored the United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act, a legislation that supported full funding of security assistance to Israel as outlined in the 2016 U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding.
Senator Murkowski opposes the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement targeting Israel and cosponsored the Combating BDS Act of 2017, that aimed to fight discriminatory boycotts of Israel. In 2019, she voted for the Strengthening America’s Middle East Security Act which, among other things, strengthens Israel’s security and allows a state or local government to adopt measures to divest its assets from entities that boycott Israel.
