Summary
Mark Warner was born in 1954 and is currently serving as the senior United States Senator from Virginia. Senator Warner’s seat is up for election in 2026.
Warner was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2008 and reelected to a second term in 2014. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus. Before becoming a Senator, Warner served as the Governor of Virginia from 2002 until 2006, while being also the Chair of the National Governors Association from 2004 until 2005.
Senator Warner is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence. He also serves on the Finance Committee; the Budget Committee; the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee; and the Committee on Rules and Administration.
Below is Senator Warner’s voting record and public positions on issues important to the Jewish community.
Senator Warner supported the Iran nuclear deal. He opposed UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which claimed that Israel’s settlements have no legal validity. Senator Warner cosponsored the Taylor Force Act, which states that no American governmental funds shall be given to a Palestinian entity that rewards financially terrorists or their families. He cosponsored a resolution that opposes the discriminatory Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and the delegitimization of Israel.
In 2018, Senator Warner cosponsored the United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act, a legislation that supported full funding of security assistance to Israel as outlined in the 2016 U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding.
In 2019, he voted against the Strengthening America’s Middle East Security Act which, among other things, strengthened Israel’s security and allowed a state or local government to adopt measures to divest its assets from entities that boycott Israel.
