Summary
Steven Daines was born in 1962 and is currently serving as the junior United States Senator from Montana. Senator Daines’ seat is up for election in 2026.
Daines was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2014. Prior to that, he served as the U.S. Representative for Montana’s at-large Congressional District from 2013 to 2015. Senator Daines has a long private-sector business experience. During his political career, he served also as state chairman for Republican Mike Huckabee’s 2008 presidential campaign.
Senator Daines is currently serving on the Appropriations Committee; the Finance Committee; the Energy and Natural Resources Committee; and the Indian Affairs Committee.

Senator Daines opposed the Iran Deal and opposed UN Security Council Resolution 2334 that claimed that Israel’s settlements have no legal validity. Senator Daines supported the Taylor Force Act, which stated that no American governmental funds shall be given to a Palestinian entity that financially rewards terrorists or their families. He opposes the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and cosponsored the Combating BDS Act of 2017, a bill that aimed to fight discriminatory boycotts that target Israel.
In 2018, Senator Daines cosponsored the United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act, a legislation that supported full funding of security assistance to Israel as outlined in the 2016 U.S.-Israel Memorandum of Understanding….
In 2019, he voted for the Strengthening America’s Middle East Security Act which, among other things, strengthened Israel’s security and allowed a state or local government to adopt measures to divest its assets from entities that boycott Israel.
